Portland Timbers x Houston Dynamo

The Portland Timbers put on a show at Providence Park this past weekend, rolling past Houston Dynamo FC with a commanding 3-1 win. Powered by a brilliant performance from Antony Alves and a relentless attacking approach, the Timbers sent a strong message that they’re a force to be reckoned with.

Timbers Come Out Firing

From the first whistle, Portland wasted no time asserting themselves. Their high-energy press and quick passing had Houston on the back foot early, and it didn’t take long for the breakthrough to come. In the 15th minute, Antony Alves dazzled the home crowd with a clinical finish after a pinpoint cross from Yimmi Chara, giving the Timbers a deserved 1-0 lead.

The pressure didn’t stop there. Just ten minutes later, Felipe Mora doubled the advantage, rising above the defense to head home a well-placed delivery from Diego Valeri. With Portland in complete control, Houston found themselves desperately searching for a response.

Dynamo Fight Back

Despite being outplayed for much of the first half, Houston Dynamo found a lifeline in the 38th minute. A handball in the box by Liam Ridgewell gifted the visitors a penalty, and Mauro Manotas stepped up to convert, cutting the deficit to 2-1. That goal briefly shifted momentum in Houston’s favor, but the Timbers defense held strong to take their lead into halftime.

Alves Seals the Deal

The second half saw both teams push for the next crucial goal, but it was the Timbers who struck again to put the game out of reach. In the 73rd minute, Alves capped off his brilliant night with a stunning long-range strike, curling the ball past the Houston goalkeeper to make it 3-1. The crowd erupted as Portland’s lead was firmly secured.
