Toronto FC x Portland Timbers
Toronto FC turned BMO Field into a celebration zone with a thrilling 3 to 0 victory over the Portland Timbers in front of a roaring home crowd. From the opening minutes the Reds looked locked in and hungry for three points.
The fireworks started early when Alonso Coello stepped up to a free kick and delivered a moment of magic. He bent the ball perfectly into the top corner for his first goal of the season and Toronto’s first direct free kick strike of the year. The crowd erupted and that set the tone for the night.
In the second half Toronto continued to push. Just past the 55 minute mark Coello whipped in a dangerous corner and Tyrese Spicer rose high to meet it with a powerful header that made it 2 to 0. That was Spicer’s sixth goal of the campaign and a true highlight-reel finish.
Toronto sealed the win in stoppage time. Derrick Etienne Jr danced down the left wing shook off a defender and squared the ball to Deandre Kerr who tapped it home from close range to put the exclamation point on a commanding performance.
Defensively Toronto was just as sharp. They kept a clean sheet for the fifth time this season shutting down a usually dangerous Portland attack. The win snapped a rough stretch and lifted the Reds to 17 points on the season while Portland was left stunned.
It was a statement win full of flair confidence and goals. Toronto is back in business.
