Inter Miami snatched all three points in dramatic fashion on March 16, 2025, as Fafà Picault’s late header sealed a 2-1 win over Atlanta United at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Despite a promising start for the home side, a moment of brilliance from Lionel Messi and a last-gasp finish from Picault turned the tide in Miami’s favor.

Atlanta United wasted no time getting on the front foot, pressing high and creating early chances. Their efforts paid off in the 11th minute when Brooks Lennon sent a pinpoint cross into the box, where Emmanuel Latte Lath soared above Miami’s defense to nod the ball past Drake Callender. The goal sent the home crowd into a frenzy and finally ended Atlanta’s recent scoring struggles.

The lead, however, was short-lived. Just nine minutes later, Inter Miami responded through none other than Lionel Messi. Pouncing on a loose ball after dispossessing Bartosz Slisz, Messi weaved through Atlanta’s defense with ease before lofting a perfectly executed chip over Brad Guzan to level the score at 1-1. The goal was vintage Messi—composure, precision, and a touch of brilliance that left Atlanta’s defenders frozen.

The second half saw both teams push for a winner, but defenses held firm as the match seemed destined to end in a draw. That changed in the 89th minute when Jordi Alba whipped in a dangerous cross into the box. Picault rose above his marker and directed a powerful header into the back of the net, stunning the Atlanta faithful and securing a huge road win for Miami.
